Dan Pink on motivation

by Warren Davies. Follow me on twitter.

Here’s a little video (18min) of Dan Pink giving a TED talk on motivation. Very interesting stuff in here, and it’s along similar lines to the motivation posts I’ve put up previously, but with some extra stuff I haven’t covered before. Thanks to Jeremiah Reandino for bringing this to my attention!

Yeah I totally agree, he’s a great speaker and the video above has some hilarious moments.

  3. Obviously the candle test group would have done the experiment faster had they been motivated by their own reality show. Reality shows are an underutilized means of improvement in the workplace, IMO.

    =)

  4. It is an interesting video. I like the part where he says “rewards narrow the mind.” It’s an interesting idea, the whole business/science debate!

  5. motivation is a really hard thing to do especially with something you have really not much interest in. i think you are naturally more motivated to so something that you either love or believe in. whats the point in motivating yourself to do something you hate? the years are passing by quickly. may as well do something you really love! chow

    Warren,

I subscribe via rss to your blog, you are always presenting new ideas that really are thought provoking and inspirational.

A real thanks goes to Jeremiah Reandino for reminding you about this Dan Pink video!

Dan’s presentation was only 18 minutes long and I took over 2 pages of notes! The 18 minutes stretched to over 45 minutes as I would go back to catch all the salient points he was presenting.

He really was spot on with what the 21st century workers need for Intrinsic Motivation and the 3 factors of Autonomy, Mastery and Purpose.

I know as a baby boomer, money and career has become less of a factor. I look now for how may I contribute and become a part of something larger than myself.

Thanks for sharing this video with us.
