Generally Thinking

"Specialization is for insects" – Robert A. Heinlein

You might have noticed my output on this blog dropping a little bit since around February this year.  As some of you know, the reason for this is that I’ve been writing a book, a study guide for psychology students.  Well yesterday I finally finished it!

That is, I think I have.  I still have to have a final run-through of the book and seek out any typos that have escaped the my attention and the attention of those who kindly helped with the editing.

The final product is a 155 page ebook, which covers foundation knowledge needed on a psychology course, as well as a huge study skills section which also covers accelerated learning techniques and critical thinking skills.  It’s everything a psychology student needs, and although I might be a little bit biased, I think it’s the best book of its kind available.  It’s going to sell for $29.95, with an initial discount for the first 50 buyers.

I’m drafting up a so-called ‘pitch page’ which will have more information, when that’s up I’ll edit this sentence and add the link in. Edit: Here it is.

In the meantime, I’m looking to give away free copies to psychology bloggers in exchange for an honest review on your blog and a link back to the pitch page.

If you’re interested, drop me an email and let me know, and let me know your blog URL too.

I also don’t have a psychology blog but I’m always interested in trying to understand myself and others around me.

I wish you much success with your new book. Are you going to sell it through amazon and are you going to be making it readable in kindle or iPad?

My daughter has just self-published her second book and got the rights back from the publisher of her first book. She has just gone to all the trouble etc of getting her ISBN number so now she is ready to roll.

I wish you every success in your new venture too :-)

      Jan,

At the moment it’s just selling through this site. Amazon want too big a cur for the Kindle store (70%!), but I’ll put a shortened version on there along with a code which allows people to get a discount if they want to buy the full thing. I’m looking into the iPad, apparently it’s a bit hard to get into, you have to go through one of their trusted vendors. I’ll see how that goes.

As for print….not at the moment, royalties/advances don’t make that the best option for me. But it’s something I might do in the future.

      Thanks,
      Warren

  3. Before I got this job of mine, I have taken up Psychology course, and it’s been my dream to write and have my own book, but got no idea on how to make an e-book, hope I could get more ideas on your blog on how to make one. Ever since, I’ve been idolizing those writers who could make and manage a blog and at the same time being able to write their own book. Happy and excited to read more of your posts, this surely can help persons deal and cope with their problems.

I’m not sure I’m the best model, Angeline; I practically had no social life for 6 months while writing the book (except for World Cup matches, of course!).

I want to talk to people, not keywords! If you put a keyword in the name field your comment won't be published, unless it is totally awesome, in which case I'll strip the URL.
