I have found that with the link system, even tenuous links are beneficial. For example, encontrar could be linked to an image to do with something being “in country.” It might take a little extra processing time when testing to recall the word, but once it is in there it may just be a matter of regular recall practice.
Watching Spanish soaps on You Tube has been quite a useful exercise too. It takes a few run throughs, and some pausing and restarting, but I can generally get the gist of what is going on. The student project soaps have been very useful for this, as the ‘actors’ talk a little slower and use less complicated language.
So far I have learned around 30 of the most common 100 words; I’d like to finish the week having learned them all. Then I can move on to phrases, grammar, and other words.
