Psychology Research Database

The purpose of this database is to make it easy for psychology students (and also researchers and journalists) to find and discuss:

  • Peer-reviewed articles on scientific psychology, that don’t require a paid subscription to access
  • Places on the web where these articles have been discussed/blogged about

There are other excellent sites which do a similar job (e.g., Research Blogging), but this one is aimed at psychology, and specifically at the curriculum covered by psychology students.

It is my hope that the pages will be filled with research relevant to the current curriculum, so students can find papers easily, and discuss them with myself and other students if there is anything they are unsure about.  There are also some fantastic psychology blogs out there that discuss these papers with great depth and insight, and it would be good if students could find these easily to help their understanding of the topics.

I also hope this will be a collaborative effort, and people will submit papers themselves and add their thoughts and notes to the entries.

How to use this

On the left are the various topic areas we have covered so far.  Clicking that will reveal the list of peer reviewed papers in that category.  The entries in each category will consist of only:

  • The reference in APA format
  • The abstract
  • Where the paper can be found online for free download (if relevant)

Clicking the title of the entry will reveal the ‘notes’ for that paper.  Notes are user-added comments which might consist of:

  • Thoughts and reflections on the paper
  • Typed up study notes
  • Questions and queries
  • Links to other web pages that discuss this paper

All notes will be moderated and will have to be kept on topic. If it’s not one of the above, it won’t make it through moderation – no exceptions!

I’m still ironing out the creases of how this is going to work and be displayed. Comments and feedback are welcome, click ‘contact me’ above. I could also use some help adding papers. Press the “Add Paper” button, always at the top right, and follow the instructions.
